The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is the body with responsibility for prosecuting criminal cases in England and Wales. Following an investigation by the police or other investigating authority, the CPS’s role involves deciding if a case should be prosecuted, determining what charges are appropriate in the circumstances, preparing cases and presenting them in court, and providing information, assistance and support to victims and those appearing as witnesses for the prosecution. The CPS acts independently of the police and government, with any decisions made regarding prospective prosecutions made according to its Code for Crown Prosecutors. A person will therefore be charged with an offence only if the CPS believes there is enough evidence to support a realistic prospect of conviction and if it believes that doing so is in the public interest.

If you are the subject of a prosecution by the CPS, you need the right legal representation in order to make the most robust defence possible to any charges.
